Enjoy the free WiFi (?)

November 14, 2010

Back sheep, the anti-firesheep tool to prevent session hijackingDo you enjoy sitting at the local coffee shop sipping a latte and surfing the web?  What about that great WiFi you enjoy on long plane trips across country?  Well then you’re not alone as millions of users do this daily – but you may not be safe either.

Hopefully you’ve heard the news about Firesheep, a free hijacking tool that makes it easy – really easy – for just about anyone in that same coffee shop to hijack your session to sites like Facebook, Tiwtter and Amazon.  Essentially taking over the page you logged into just on their laptop.

And while the best answer is to skip the unsecured WiFi altogether and use technologies like VPN or a 3G modem (or both) that just isn’t a practical answer for the masses.  What you can do however is install a free tool called Blacksheep to watch out specifically for Firesheep users.

Blacksheep is free to download here: http://www.zscaler.com/blacksheep.html
